Abstract

This paper presents the results of finite element modeling of misaligned dowels. It shows that uniformly misaligned dowels perform similar to perfectly aligned dowels. On the other hand, non-uniformly misaligned dowels may cause joint lock-up and significant stresses in the surrounding concrete, which may lead to premature joint failure and reduce pavement life.
