Abstract

This paper is an essay on the effect of standards and on problems and disputes that commonly develop in construction of heavy duty airfield pavements. It is intended to call attention to the need for improved standards for which research is needed to develop solutions to problems that develop in concrete airfield paving and tend to lead to owner-contractor disputes. Four construction scenarios that appear to suffer from insufficient specifications and consequently result in disputes are presented and discussed. Recommendations for potential improvements are made for each.
