Since 1996, twenty-two concrete pavement projects incorporating innovative design and construction concepts have been constructed by participating State Highway Agencies (SHAs) under the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA’s) TE-30 program. However, to date there has been no formal attempt to ascertain the status of these projects, which increases the likelihood that any benefit or increased understanding of PCC pavement performance that might be obtained from these projects will be lost. To address this potential shortcoming, this paper introduces the different projects included in the TE-30 program, and summarizes the various design and construction innovations currently being investigated in those projects. It also highlights some preliminary findings from selected projects.
