Abstract

Statistical characteristics of falling weight deflectometer (FWD) deflections and the backcalculated moduli were investigated based on the data obtained from FWD tests conducted on the newly constructed concrete pavements. The precise statistical evaluation was performed for uniform section that was identified based on AASHTO method. Statistical parameters of FWD deflections and layer moduli for uniform sections of sound concrete pavement structures were obtained. It was found that stiffness of subbase and subgrade strongly affect uniformity of FWD deflection for a pavement section and that the frequency distributions of the deflection and backcalculated moduli can be approximated by normal probability functions.
