Abstract

It is well known that the temperature gradient through the concrete pavement slab has a significant influence on the degree of support offered by the foundation. Hence, the FWD deflection measurements of concrete pavement are dependent on temperature gradient to some extent, which makes it difficult to reasonably evaluate pavement structural conditions. On the basis of a recent experimental study, a temperature gradient prediction model for jointed concrete pavement is developed in this paper. Next, by analyzing the influence of temperature gradient on FWD measurements, the temperature gradient deflection correction charts are proposed. These procedures will make it easier to adjust pavement deflection data and backcalculated moduli to standard temperature gradient conditions.
